The Algund Waalweg is a wonderful hiking trail near Merano.
It starts in Algund and ends at the Vellauer Felsenweg above Merano. Parking is available in Algund or at the Algund Waalweg parking lot. From there, the path follows the ancient irrigation channels (Waale) to the Vellauer Felsenweg. For those who want to extend the hike, it is possible to continue to Dorf Tirol or Merano. The trail is easily accessible by public transport, taking the Vinschgerbahn train to Algund. The hike takes about 2 to 3 hours, depending on pace, and is rated as easy to moderate. Good hiking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended.

Hiking Connections
To the Marlinger Waalweg: From the starting point (Grabbach, Oberplars), you can hike westward to Töll, where the Marlinger Waalweg – South Tyrol's longest Waalweg – begins
To the Tappeinerweg: At the end of the Algund Waalweg (Leiter am Waal), the Vellauer Felsenweg continues to Dorf Tirol. From there, you can switch to the Tappeinerweg and descend to Merano
Public Transport
Outbound: Bus line 213 from Merano to Algund (stop "Algund, Mitterplars"), then a short walk to the starting point.
Alternatively, take the Vinschgerbahn train to Töll station and walk from there
Return: From Merano, take bus 237 back to Algund or take the Hochmuth chairlift to Dorf Tirol and then bus 221 to Merano
